The 2025 Grammy Awards were broadcast on live television as 15.4 million viewers watched from around the world at 7 p.m. on Feb. 2. One of the winners was, of course, Beyoncé. Beyoncé won three awards: Album of the Year, Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
Beyoncé is a songwriter and businessperson who has been well-known for years. It was not shocking that she won her awards, and as a person who has worked so hard to get to where she is today, she deserves the recognition. However, the question is not whether she deserved it, but whether she really needed it.
Most viewers’ opinions are that Beyoncé should not have won the Country Album Award and called it a “one-time thing.” A significant portion of the public expressed criticism that her album “Cowboy Carter” did not align with traditional country music, causing controversy and debate about whether the award was deserved; some even felt it was a “rigged” decision by the Grammys.
Despite admiring Beyoncé’s music, country fans believe other long-term country artists are more worthy of the Grammy Award for Best Country Album, as the award was created to recognize country albums that meet certain criteria and to highlight works that adhere to the country genre, while Beyoncé’s career is rooted in pop. Even Beyoncé seemed surprised by the win, indicating that she might not have expected to get the award.
I love Beyoncé. She is one of the best and I love her music, movies and all. She has been popular since I was a kid. You cannot go anywhere or meet anyone who has not heard the name Beyoncé, and once I saw she was one of the nominees, I already knew who was going to win.
For a person who is already this well known, does winning this award really affect her career when she is already the number-one person in Billboard’s Greatest Pop Stars of the 21st Century?
Beyoncé’s career total of 99 Grammy nominations makes her the most-nominated artist in Grammy history. She has a record-breaking number of nominations for her album Cowboy Carter, with 11 nominations in the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Before that, she already had 35 Grammy wins. Beyoncé is not only credited with helping popularize African music globally in the late 2010s, but Beyoncé’s country album also highlights black contributions to country music by acknowledging the role of Black artists in creating country music and challenging the genre’s racist roots.
Beyoncé is one of the greatest. However, she does not entirely need this award to make her successful and talented, because she already is.
