Music on Repeat: ‘Half God’ by Wiki (2021)
“Half God” is the fifth full-length record from New York rapper Wiki. With fellow New Yorker Navy Blue managing the production aspect of the record, the album is a reflection upon the struggles of youth in the Big Apple. Wiki’s aggravated, yet calculated, rhymes meet with intriguingly simple beats on “Half God,” allowing Wiki to float from bar to bar in a retro sort of way. Wiki raps about the world around him, the people he sees and the division he sees between them and himself. Although the subject matter is bleak, the record in its entirety paints a picture that is far from dull. Through the production of Navy Blue, tastefully placed samples and brooding lyricism, “Half God” sounds like a classic New York rap album. Refined, wise and confident, Wiki showcases his talent on a greater scale on his fifth record.
