UCM Mules and Jennies multievent competitors kicked off the outdoor track and field season Thursday at the Wichita State Herm Wilson Invitational at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
Freshman Trey Miller won his first decathlon with 6,792 points and beat out the second place finisher by more than 600 points. Two other Mules earned top-10 finishes with freshman Garrett Francis in fifth and Calaway Scholes in 10th.
Sophomore Lauren Nelson led the Jennies in the heptathlon with a seventh-place finish and a personal-best 3,917 points. Sophomore Kyra Webster took 14th with 3,561 points.
Distance runners from both the Mules and Jennies are scheduled to compete Friday at the WashU Distance Classic in St. Louis. The rest of the team will compete in the Emporia State Relays Saturday at Francis G. Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas.
