Jennies volleyball began the MIAA Championship with a 3-1 win on the road over Northwest Missouri State in the quarterfinal round.
The first set saw the Jennies use an 11-3 run to pull away to a 19-10 lead. The Jennies took the set 25-15 behind seven kills from senior Kylie Hohlen.
Senior Kylie Hohlen picked up 16 kills in the Jennies 3-1 win over Northwest Missouri State in the MIAA Championship quarterfinals Tuesday in Maryville, Missouri.
Set two was more of the same as the Jennies led the entire way to a 25-17 win. The Bearcats managed to climb back into the set at 14-13, but kills from freshman Hannah Engelken and junior Rylee Neigenfind helped put the Bearcats away.
The Bearcats broke through in the third set leading by as many as six. The Jennies used a 7-1 run to close the 17-11 gap and tie the set. Three straight points from the Bearcats made it 21-18, but the Jennies retaliated and tied it up on a kill from senior Carly Offerdahl. Down 24-22, the Bearcats scored four-straight points to take the set 26-24.
The fourth set was closely contested midway through at an 11-11 tie. The Jennies used another 7-1 run to go up 18-12 and went on the win the set 25-17 and clinch and spot in the MIAA Championship semifinals.
The Jennies’ opponent in the semifinals will be top-seeded Nebraska-Kearney. The Lopers are 31-2 and ranked third in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-25 Poll. The Lopers swept the Jennies in their only meeting this season.
First serve between the Jennies and Lopers is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
