Jennies soccer had earned shutout wins in their last three matches, but were caught off guard in a 3-1 loss to Emporia State Sunday on the road.
The Jennies were coming off their third-straight shutout after defeating Washburn 4-0 Friday. Senior forward Jada Scott broke a three-game scoring drought with two goals and an assist on sophomore forward Makayla Toth’s goal.
Against Emporia State, the Jennies got on the board almost immediately when senior forward Courtney Killian scored her ninth goal of the season just 31 seconds in. The Hornets came back and scored two quick goals in the 15th and 17th minutes and added a third in the 55th.
The Jennies third loss of the season brings their overall record to 12-3-1 and 6-2-1 in conference. Central Missouri has just a half game lead on the Hornets, who, with the win, moved into a tie for third place with Missouri Western.
The Jennies will be at home for the final week of the regular season with matchups against two top-5 MIAA teams, Lindenwood and Missouri Western. Western handed the Jennies their first loss of the season in a nonconference matchup Sept. 21.
Kickoff against Lindenwood is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at South Recreational Complex. The season finale against Missouri Western is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at South Recreational Complex.
