UCM’s sororities gathered together Aug. 20 to welcome new sorority members.
The women went through a process called “rush.” Rush is a process where potential sorority members talk to all the sororities to find the one that is a good match for the new member and for the sorority.
During rush, the different sororities have one-on-one conversations with the potential sorority members. They narrow down their choices, and the sororities do the same.
As rush comes to a close, the sororities invite the potential members into the different sororities. After rush is over, they go to bid day. Bid day is where the potential sorority members find out into which sorority they are going to be accepted.
Each potential sorority member can choose to accept or decline their bid. If they accept their bid, they are put into groups of all the different sororities. Each group is then given matching T-shirts.
Then, the new sorority members walk across the street from the Elliott Student Union. This is where the different sororities welcomed the new sorority members.
