A UCM freshman finished in the top 15 at the NCAA Division II Golf Championship to earn his first career All-American award.
Sam Parrot tied for 12th at the NCAA Championship on May 23, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, according to a press release.
He completed his first golf round May 21 when he shot 3-over-par for a first-round score of 75 and is tied for 51st place after 18 holes. Parrot had a double bogey on two of his first six holes but rebounded and shot 1-under-par for the final 12 holes, including 4 birdies.
Parrott birdied on holes five and seven to bring his score to 2-over-par, but a bogey on hole eight and an even-par-3 on hole nine closed his day at 3-over par.
Parrott was successful on the four par-3 holes, shooting 1-under-par and averaging 2.75 strokes.
Then on day two, May 22, he improved by three strokes. He moved up to tie for 44th place. He’s shooting +3, 147 after 36 holes with an even 72 in round two, according to the release.
Parrot hit birdie on two of his first three holes and was one-under-par after nine holes. He bogeyed holes 10 and 12 but shot par for the final six holes.
Parrott shot under-par on par-three and par-five holes. He’s averaging 2.88 (-1) strokes per par-three and 4.75 (-2) strokes per par-five, according to the release.
And finally on day three, May 23, he shot -7, 65 and finished 54 holes at -4, 212.
Parrot’s 65 was tied for the lowest round in all three rounds of stroke play and was the lowest round by a Mule this season, the previous one being 68.
For all 18 holes, he shot even-par or better. Starting on the back nine, he shot par on each of his first seven holes and then had birdies for the next four holes, before shooting par on his four holes after that.
He finished his round with birdies on holes seven, eight and nine for the 65 score.
Parrot moved up 32 spots on the final day to finish in a tie for 12th.
