Jennies bowling takes second at MIAA Championship
The Jens were in Wheaton, Illinois, last week for the MIAA Championships looking for a second straight conference crown.
Despite going 2-1 on the second day of the tournament, the Jennies were unable to overcome eventual champions McKendree Bearcats in the championship match.
The Jennies opened the second day of play with a 4-0 sweep of the Maryville Saints to advance to the championship. To win the championship, the Jens needed to defeat McKendree twice in a row because of their loss to the Bearcats on the first day of the tournament. The Jens persevered and took the first series 4-2 to force the best-of-seven Baker series for the championship.
The Jennies grabbed the first match of the winner take all series, but the Bearcats turned around and won the next three matches. With the title on the line, the Jens took the fifth match of the series to bring the series to 3-2. The Bearcats once again answered with a series clinching victory in the sixth match to take the MIAA Championship.
The Jennies now await the reveal of the teams competing in the NCAA Bowling Championship April 12-14 in St. Louis.
Mules golf set to begin spring schedule
Mules golf opened their 2018 season at the Division II National Preview in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, at the Fighting Joes Golf Club. The Mules finished tied for eighth out of 18 teams and four golfers placed in the top-50 individually.
The Mules began the season ranked 22nd in the Division II Coaches Poll after finishing in the top-5 of all but one tournament during their fall season.
Freshman Sam Parrott led the way for the Mules shooting +9 and 225 overall to finish tied for 21st. Junior Cole Dillon finished two strokes behind Parrott tied for 28th place. Junior John Bonaobra and senior Shayne Allan each tied for 42nd and shot +14, 230.
The Mules will be back in action April 2 and 3 at the Dallas Baptist Classic in Los Colinas, Texas, at the Hackberry Country Club.
Mules football announces spring schedule
Mules football will return to the field for spring practice to prepare for their annual spring game.
The schedule consists of 14 practices over four weeks beginning this week. Weekday practices will be held in the afternoon while the three Saturday sessions will be at 10 a.m.
The Mules will wrap up their spring schedule with their spring game Saturday, April 21, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and is free to attend.
Jennies softball continues home winning streak
Jennies softball was busy over spring break playing in a four-team tournament and facing three conference opponents in doubleheaders. The Jens won eight of those 10 games and improved their record to 18-15.
The Jens hosted Pittsburg State Wednesday in a doubleheader. The Gorillas came into the two-game series with a record of 13-24.
Game one saw the Jennies score two runs in the third and fourth innings en route to a 6-2 victory. Central starter Alexa Bradley tossed a complete game allowing only five hits and one earned run. Infielder Alexis Koop went 2-3 with a home run and a double.
Game two was more of the same with the Jennies piling on nine runs in the third and fourth innings to win 10-1. Left fielder Taylor Dames had two hits one being her first home run of the season. First baseman Hailey Crabtree went 2-2 with a walk and scored two runs.
The Jennies are undefeated at home after six games and have an overall record of 19-15 and 8-2 in conference. Next up for the Jens is a doubleheader with Missouri Western, game one is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Friday with game two following at the South Recreation Complex.
