Clinton, Missouri, Police Officer Christopher R. Morton, who died in the line of duty on March 6, funeral procession traveled from Clinton to Knob Noster, Missouri this afternoon.
Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens ordered all flags at all State and government offices will be flown at half-staff, statewide Monday from sunrise until sunset in honor of Morton who was killed due to a dispatch mistake.
One woman honored Morton by fundraising Tuesday afternoon in conflict with a Westboro Baptist Church protest that occurred at the intersection of Maguire and Clark streets.
In 2015, Morton joined the Clinton Police Department full time but had started in a reserve capacity in beginning in January last year after returning in May 2014 from Afghanistan where he served as a bridge crew member and radio communications manager. Before Morton served two tours in the Army National Guard.
“The world has lost a great soldier and even a better person,” said Matthew Hografe, who wrote in a Facebook post that he had deployed with Morton four years ago. “You will never be forgotten.”
