(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The Warrensburg Fire Department and KMOS-TV public broadcast station honored Karsten Eckhoff, as a

national winner in the annual PBS Kids Writers Contest.  The contest was designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning.  Eckhoff won 1st place in the KMOS contest to advance to the National PBS Kids Writers Contest.   He was chosen as a winner from thousands of submissions from 62 participating PBS stations across the country.   Karsten Eckhoff’s winning story, “Bill’s Hat is Very Stuck”, was awarded 2^nd place among the kindergarten entries.  Karsten, six, is the son of Debbie and Tom Eckhoff of Stover, Mo.
To honor Karsten’s achievements, he and his family were given a tour of Warrensburg Fire Station 1 on Sept. 19.  He will also ride with the Warrensburg Fire Department during the UCM Homecoming Parade on Saturday.  “It was our pleasure to meet Karsten and his family.  This is an outstanding achievement and we are honored to help him celebrate,” said Jeremy VanWey, Fire and Emergency Prevention Officer with the Warrensburg Fire Department.
