(HOUSTON, Texas) —The No. 19 Central Missouri Mules picked up their first win of the season with a 13-0, seven-inning win over Henderson State on Sunday afternoon at the Houston Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park.
The Mules (1-1) jumped out to a big early lead, plating six runs in the second inning. Trevor Jones had a two-run bases-loaded single to get UCM on the board. Brad Jelinekscored on a balk before Brad Wilson singled home Jones to make it 4-0. Tony Sandifer added a two-run single to put the Mules up six.
UCM added three more runs in the third to build a 9-0 lead. Todd Reller had an RBI groundout to drive in his first run as a Mule. Jones plated Jelinek with a triple into the right field corner and later scored on Dusty Maas‘ RBI groundout.
Central Missouri pushed four more runs across in the bottom of the sixth. Barrett Noirfalise had an RBI single to make it 10-0. Matt Molbury and Jelinek drew bases-loaded walks to force in two more runs and Jones drove in his fourth run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Jones finished the day 3 for 4 with a triple, four runs driven in and two scored. Noirfalise also had three hits and Sandifer added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
Jake Heissler (1-0) picked up the win tossing five innings of three-hit baseball. He walked two and struck out six. Kyle Gehrs and Devon Brogan each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Jon Luthe (0-1) took the loss for Henderson State (0-2) giving up nine runs, eight earned, on six hits in 2.1 innings.
The Mules are back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. as they take on Arkansas-Monticello (2-0) on day three of the Houston Winter Invitational. The Boll Weevils beat No. 15 St. Mary’s 16-5 in seven innings earlier in the day on Sunday.
