(ARKADELPHIA, Ark.) — The Central Missouri wrestling team was beat by one Saturday in Arkadelphia, Ark. by Ouachita Baptist. Eric Mateo (141) and Ty Loethen (165) both recorded pins in the 21-22 loss.
The Mules dropped the first two matches of the dual, Malacai Collins (125) lost by decision and Andrew Robinson (133) was pinned at 1:14, giving Ouachita a 9-0 lead.
The Mules were able to make up the points in the following two matches, Mateo winning by fall at 1:44 and Frank Cagnina (149) with a 7-2 decision. The teams split the next two matches with back-to-back pins, Brennan Johnson (154) was pinned at 1:50 and Loethen won by fall at 2:21.
UCM took their first lead of the dual at 18-15, after Josh Thomson’s (171) win by decision, but the lead was short lived as Josh Ploof (184) lost by major decision in the next round to give Ouachita a 19-18 lead.
That one point lead proved to be enough for Ouchita, as the teams split the last two matches of the dual, Todd Brier (197) winning by decision followed by Derek Morgan’s (285) loss by decision.
The Mules will be back in action next week with two road duals. First they will face Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The next day they will travel to Wichita, Kan. to face off against Newman University.
