(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The Mules wrestling team opened their 2013-14 season with a pair of dual meet wins on Friday night at the UCM Multipurpose Building. The Mules beat Labette Community College 41-3 to open the night and then beat Wentworth Military Academy 54-0.
Malacai Collins started off the dual with LCC with an exciting 10-8 decision before Hunter Neighbors‘ 7-0 win gave the Mules a 6-0 lead. Eric Mateo at 141 pounds, Ty Loethenat 165, Josh Thomson at 174 and Todd Brier at 197 all recorded pins in the dual.
Seventh-ranked 141 pounder, Frank Cagnina recorded a 17-2 technical fall. Alex Schmersahl (157) and Jacob Clark (285) also picked up wins.
In the win over Wentworth, Collins and Neighbors started UCM off with back-to-back tech falls. Cagnina picked up a fall in 1:05 and Schmersahl followed him up with a 15-0 tech fall at 157 pounds. Brier picked up his second fall of the night at 197 lbs. Mateo, Loethen, Thomson and Reiman all won by forfeit.
The Mules are back in action next Sunday, Nov. 17 hosting the UCM Open at 10 a.m. at the UCM Multipurpose Building.
