(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The No. 12-ranked Jennies soccer team came up short against Central Oklahoma, 3-1 in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament at Jennies Field on Tuesday afternoon.
UCO junior forward Sarah Purcell was responsible for all three of the Bronchos’ scores in the game. She put her team ahead, 1-0 in the second minute.
The Jennies (14-2-2, 9-1-1 MIAA) evened the score in the fifth minute when Abby Rhodes punched the ball in from the left side of the net, her second goal this season.
Central Oklahoma regained the lead at 2-1 in the 18th minute when Purcell scored off a deflected cross.
In the second half, Purcell provided the Bronchos with some breathing room, scoring on a header, her ninth goal this year, making it a 3-1 tally.
UCM goalkeeper Jessica Grindstaff (8-2-0) was pulled in the 20th minute after allowing two goals and saving a shot. Sophomore Morgan Hartzler finished the final 70:32, saving two shots and allowing a score.
The Jennies’ NCAA Tournament fate will be determined this weekend during the NCAA Tournament selection show.
