(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — The No. 5 Central Missouri Jennies won their third match of the week over Lindenwood in Warrensburg on Saturday afternoon. The Jens dropped only one set to the Lions, winning 25-11, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23.
The Jennies (25-1, 11-1 MIAA) earned the first point of the set, maintaining a one point lead over the Lions (8-17, 5-6 MIAA) until 5-4 when the Jennies won seven points in a row to take the score to 11-4, Mikalee Monachino with three serving aces in the streak. The Lions were barely able to break double digits before the Jennies scored points in a row to end the set. Becca Blaise had five kills, and hit .714 in the set.
In the second set the Lions took a quick lead, and neither team took a significant lead through the set. There were 13 tie scores in the second set, but it wasn’t until 14-17 that the Lions took more than a two point lead over the Jennies in the match. The Jens again caught the Lions at 22-22 and 23-23, but the Lions were able to drive in the last two points of the set. Maddie Jones had two kills and two blocks in the set.
The Jennies were able to in the first 13 of 17 points in the third set, holding the Lions to single digits for a majority of the set, Jones contributing three blocks Central Missouri never allowed Lindenwood to come within five points of tying the score through the set, Haley Thompson finishing the set with a kill. Taylor Goodness had six kills in the set, and hit .625.
The fourth and final set of the night was a battle between the Jennies and the Lions. The Lions had the lead for most of the set, until the Jennies caught them at 16-16. Central Missouri was not able to take the lead from the Lions, but kept the match close, again catching the Lions at 22-22 and 23-23. The Jens held the Lions at 23 and scored the remaining two points of the match.
Annie Reilly had 26 digs and a serving ace and kill in the match. Julia Bates had 40 assists, four kills, two blocks, and a serving ace. Goodness finished the match with 17 kills, and two blocks. Blaise also reached double digit kills, with 10 kills, and a serving ace and block through the match.
The Jennies will take on Northwest Missouri State at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Missouri Western Friday in St. Joseph, Mo. again at 7 p.m.
