(EMPORIA, Kan.) — No. 3 Central Missouri (22-1, 8-1 MIAA) fell for the first time this season to Emporia State (14-7, 5-4 MIAA) in four sets, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 28-30.
The Jennies took the first set after several tie scores, and gaining a lead only to be caught at 11-11. Central Missouri was able to pull ahead and win the final set point with a kill by Taylor Goodness. Goodness had seven kills in the first set. Julia Bates had 13 assists in set one.
Emporia led the Jennies for the entire second set, the Jennies came close to catching Emporia at 8-9, but were unsuccessful. The Hornets held the Jennies to eight points, while they were able to score six more points, making the lead 15-8. Central Missouri was able to reach 20 points before Emporia scored three points in a row tp finish the match. Goodness had another seven kills in the match.
The Jennies had a lead for a majority of the third set, Emporia was unable to gain a lead over Central Missouri until they caught the Jennies at 19-19. Emporia took the lead and finished the set, allowing the Jennies only three more points. Carly Sojka had six kills and hit .667 in the third set.
Emporia again took the lead in the fourth set, Central Missouri trailing until 17-17. In the following points, neither team was able to gain a lead, scoring a point only to be caught the next point. Match point was gained from an attack error by Maddie Jones.
Goodness had 27 kills and 12 digs in the match, her first double-double of the season. Sojka also had a double-double in the match with 12 kills and 13 digs. Bates had 47 assists, and five kills. Annie Reilly had 33 digs and a kill.
The Jennies will have the rest of the week off, their next match will be against Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo. on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
