Celebrity waiter dinner supports Whiteman Airmen

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – Community officials, leaders and athletes will wait tables June 22 in support of airmen and their families.
The Supporting Those Who Serve Celebrity Waiter Dinner is planned for June 22 by the Whiteman Air Force Base Community Council in the Elliott Union at the University of Central Missouri.
Members of the BCC are working with representatives of UCM’s Office of Military and Veterans Services to help make the event possible. There will be a social and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner and live auction at 6:30 p.m.
Reservations must be made in advance. Individual tickets can be purchased for $50 a seat. Large groups can receive a discount if they purchase a table of eight for $350. The reservation deadline is Wednesday, June 5.
Elaine Horn, BBC president and mayor of Sedalia, said this is an excellent way to support those who serve their country.
“One hundred percent of the funds raised will support the airmen at Whiteman Air Force Base,” she said.
Horn said the funds can be used to help families in need, including times when spouses are deployed. Funds can also go toward special events and activities for airmen and their families and, in some cases, to airmen who have suffered a financial hardship. Funds recently were used, for example, to assist a military family that lost their home in a fire.
The names of celebrity waiters are not yet available. The silent auction will include Kansas City Chiefs memorabilia, a specially designed B-2 tool box, and many more items.
To donate items or to make reservations, contact Horn at 660-620-1490 or Delilah Nichols, UCM’s MVSC coordinator, at 660-543-8977.
