Brent Vogel named MIAA Athlete of the Week

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) – Senior multi-event athlete Brent Vogel was honored Monday as the MIAA Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Vogel claimed the decathlon title at the Texas State Bobcat Open last weekend, while posting the top decathlon score in NCAA Division II, with 7,274 points.
Vogel won three portions of the decathlon, taking first in the long jump on day one, then winning the 110-meter hurdles and 1,500-meter run on day two. The Jefferson City native earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in May, with his score this weekend. Vogel also set personal records in four of the ten events at Texas State.
The senior is coming off a stellar indoor track season, which saw Vogel win the national championship in the heptathlon. He was also named the USTFCCCA National Men’s Field Athlete of the Year after setting a new NCAA Division II record in the event.
Vogel, along with the rest of the Mules and Jennies, travel to Emporia next weekend for the Emporia State Relays on Saturday, April 6.
