Jennies Softball drops doubleheader to No. 9 Bronchos

(EDMOND, Okla.) – Jennies Softball dropped an MIAA doubleheader to the ninth-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos Saturday afternoon in Edmond, falling in game one 5-1 and game two 9-8 in eight innings.
The Jennies could only plate a single in the game one loss to the Bronchos. Braylyn Bivens hit a double to left center field in the top of the sixth inning to score Medora West for the lone run of the contest.
Central Oklahoma plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and another three in the sixth to seal the 5-1 victory.
Jakki Prater took the loss for the Jens, going five innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out five to dip her record to 7-3 on the season. Kalynn Schrock picked up the win for the Bronchos, striking out ten, to improve her record to an impressive 13-3 overall.
The Bronchos took an early 3-1 lead in the second game of the day after plating three runs in the bottom of the first. UCM answered in the top of the second though after Bivens singled to plate a pair of runs and knot the game at three.
Central Oklahoma regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, plating three more runs on a sacrifice fly and two run homer to take the 6-3 advantage.
The Jennies cut the deficit to 6-4 in the top of the third on Jakki Prater’s home run to left center but once again the Bronchos answered, scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 8-4.
UCM cut the UCO lead to 8-5 in the top of the fourth after Bivens singled home a run.
The Jennies plated two more runs in the top of the fifth on a single from West to pull within one of the Broncho advantage.
UCM tied the contest up in dramatic fashion in the top of the seventh. With two outs, Ali Jo Rogers stepped up to the plate and blasted a solo shot to left center to keep the Jennies alive and tie the game at eight. The Jens then held the Bronchos scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to force extra innings in Edmond.
The Bronchos retired the Jennies in order in the top of the eighth and plated the game-winning run in the bottom half of the inning on a UCM error.
The Jennies outhit the Bronchos in game two, 14-8, but committed four errors to the Bronchos’ two.
Jennies pitcher Megan Schallom suffered the loss in the circle, pitching 4.2 innings in relief, dropping her record to 0-2 overall. Schrock secured her second win of the day in the circle for UCO, going two innings in relief, to improve her record to 14-3.
The Jennies are back in action Tuesday, April 2 when they host the Emporia State Hornets in an MIAA doubleheader at 4 p.m at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
