Little Simz – “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert” (2021)

 British rapper Little Simz’s fourth album catches the acclaimed, yet unappreciated, rapper in a moment of vulnerability that listeners have not heard yet. Little Simz opens herself up on the opening track “Introvert” saying, “But if you can’t feel pain, then you can’t feel the opposite.” The record is also a return for Simz to a rich or fuller style of production, while Simz’s last record, “GREY Area” featured a style of production and beats that were scaled down a notch. In the age of Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B, Little Simz’s intricate songwriting and in-your-face bars are refreshing for fans of the rap genre. “I Might Be Introvert” employs two finely chosen features as well. Cleo Sol in particular adds soul to Simz’s swaying lyricism on the track, “Woman.” Little Simz managed to combine self-reflective lyricism with a variety of interesting beats while still bringing the same hard-hitting bars that she has been for nearly a decade.
