Dennis Keith Smithson, 73, of Holden, Missouri, died July 4 at his home.

A private service with family will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at New Life Fellowship, 400 S. Main St. in Holden.
Dennis was born April 10, 1943, to James Earl Smithson and Mildred Cora (Jacks) Smithson in Minnesota. Dennis graduated high school at Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He moved to the Holden area in 1974, and on June 6, 1975, he married Linda Ann Hedden. Dennis worked and retired from the Kansas City Star and also worked for many years as the sexton at the Holden Cemetery. Dennis always felt that his calling was maintaining the cemetery and helping families locate loved ones who have died. Dennis was a longtime member of the Holden First Baptist Church.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; four sons, Russell Smithson and wife, Kathy, of Higginsville, Missouri; Christopher Scott Smithson and wife, Jennifer, of Holden; Douglas Eugene Smithson, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Darryll James Smithson, of Warrensburg, Missouri; and grandchildren, Greg Smithson and wife, Heather; Anthony Smithson; Steve and wife, Lindsey; Douglas Ryan Smithson; Lauren Fears; Tony Ray Davis; Alexandria Jeanette Smithson; Cody Copland; and Caleb Allen Smithson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Smithson, in 1988.
