Jennies soccer shutout Northwest Missouri, clinch spot in MIAA Tournament

(MARYVILLE, Mo.) — Jennies soccer picked up its third straight victory Sunday afternoon, shutting out Northwest Missouri State 2-0 at Bearcat Pitch.
Alexis Robbers gave the Jennies (12-1-3, 8-0-2 MIAA) the 1-0 lead in the 57th minute of the match, scoring on a Bailey Hensley assist. It marked Robbers’ team-high eighth goal and Hensley’s second assist of the season. Becky Lackey extended the Jennies lead to 2-0 over the Bearcats (8-5-3, 6-3-2 MIAA) in the 76th minute, netting her sixth goal on Julie Ireland‘s first collegiate assist.
The Jennies out-shot the Bearcats 20-13 in the match, including a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks taken. Jennies goalkeeper Morgan Hartzler made four saves, picking up her fourth shutout in-goal, improving her overall record to 5-0-1.
With the win over Northwest Missouri State, the Jennies clinched a spot in the MIAA Postseason Soccer Tournament, which begins Oct. 30. The location has not been determined.
The Jennies return to the South Recreation Complex for their final two matches of the regular season, beginning with Truman at 7 p.m. Thursday.
