Time capsule removed from cornerstone of Missouri Capitol

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., AP) — A time capsule laid in the cornerstone of the Missouri Capitol has been removed in preparation for a ceremony marking its 100th anniversary.

State workers wearing plastic gloves lifted the copper box out of a wall on the southeast corner of the Capitol on Tuesday. The time capsule then was taken to the state health laboratory for safekeeping until an archivist can review the contents.
Items placed in the box in 1915 include a Bible, a copy of the constitutional amendment authorizing construction of the Capitol, newspapers and photos of a previous Capitol that burned.
Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon plans to unveil the time capsule’s contents — and dedicate a new one — during a July 3 ceremony. He’s soliciting ideas about what to put in the new box.
