Jennies Bowling earns at-large bid to NCAA Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) — The Jennies Bowling team earned the fifth at-large selection to this year’s NCAA Bowling Championships to be held at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Missouri. Competition gets underway on Thursday, April 9 and runs through April 11.
The Jennies are 83-38 this season and have been ranked in the top 10 in every National TenPin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll this year. With their selection, the Jennies along with Nebraska are the only two teams that have been selected for every NCAA Championship since they began in 2004.
The eight-team field includes in seeding order: Nebraska, Fairleigh Dickinson, Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, UCM, defending champion Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Competition begins on Thursday, April 9 with qualifying rounds, in which each team bowls one five-person regular team game against each of the other seven participating teams. Teams will be seeded for bracket play based on their win-loss record during qualifying rounds.
At the conclusion of the qualifying rounds, teams will then compete in a best-of-seven Baker matches in the double elimination tournament. In the Baker format, each of the five team members, in order, bowls a complete frame until a complete 10-frame game is bowled. A Baker match tied at 3.5 a piece after seven games will be decided by a tiebreaker using the Modified Baker format.
The championship final will air on ESPNU at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, April 11.
