'War Horse' actor set to visit UCM

An a professional actor from the production of “War Horse” is scheduled to visit the University of Central Missouri as a guest artist Jan. 15-17.
Andrew Veenstra is the Meridith Harmon Sauer Guest Artist for the department of theatre and dance. He will present an open talk-back session at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Black Box Theatre in Nickerson Hall. Veenstra will talk about his career as an actor and about playing the leading role in the Broadway tour of “War Horse.” This event is open to the public.
On Friday, Jan. 16, Andrew will present an acting workshop for theater and dance students at 4 p.m. in the Highlander Theatre. Also throughout his visit, he will be working with student actors on their Irene Ryan Acting Audition scenes, which they will be presenting at the Kennedy Center American College Region V Theatre Festival in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jan. 19-20.
Veenstra is a New York native but now resides in Los Angeles. He has worked extensively on stage and screen in New York City, Los Angeles. He is most well known for playing the lead role in the Tony Award-winning play, “War Horse.” He has a broad background in Shakespeare, musical theater, and music and voice technique.
His visit is made possible through the Meridith Harmon Sauer Guest Artist Series, which was established by Lynn and Jackie Harmon in order to bring national and regional guest artists to the University of Central Missouri.
