Charlene V. Brown, 85, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Rolla, Missouri, died Sunday, July 13, at the Wilshire at Lakewood Nursing Home in Lee’s Summit.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Gary Gene Brown officiating. Pallbearers will be Allen Parker, Michael Meagher, Harold Roberts, Chad Roberts, Billy Brown, Ronnie Brown and Travis Roberts.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral in Warrensburg, Missouri.
She was born May 23, 1929, in Leeton, Missouri, the daughter of Charles William and Cora Eller (Mason) Brown.
Charlene was a graduate of Warrensburg High School and attended Central Missouri State University for three years. After college, she moved to Rolla and worked as secretary for the U.S. Geological Survey office until her retirement after 40 years of service. In 2006, Charlene moved to Lee’s Summit and resided at the Wilshire at Lakewood Nursing Home for the past five years. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla.
Charlene is survived by four nieces, Pamela Parker of Lee’s Summit; Cheryl Meagher of Independence, Missouri; Cindy Roberts of Kansas City, Missouri; and Louise Deffenderfer of Mickinleville, California; and three nephews, Gary Gene Brown of Louisburg, Kansas; Ronnie Brown of Odessa, Missouri; and Billy Brown of Jefferson City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George T. and Kenneth Brown; and two sisters, Agnes Marr and Grace Greer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice and can be left in care of the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wilshire at Lakewood Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care.
