Ed “Hawkeye” Bentley

Ed “Hawkeye” Bentley, 79 of Knob Noster, Missouri, died Friday, June 20, at his residence.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Chaplain Erich Kurz of Crossroads Hospice officiating. Interment will follow in the Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ed was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Chester Miles Bentley and Jeanette Belle (Parrish) Bentley. He was raised in Kirksville. He enlisted in the United States Air Force. Ed was united in marriage to Wilma Juanita Cason on April 21, 1956, in Spartan, Tennessee. He made a career of the Air Force until retiring in May of 1973 after attaining the rank of master sergeant. Ed also owned and operated Hawkeye Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from the early 1970s until retiring in 1999. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his companion, Jessie Bentley; four children, Edward Bentley Jr. of Knob Noster; Donna Stewart and husband, Corky, of Auburndale, Florida; Chuck Bentley of Tipton, Missouri; and Rhonda Samaro of Winter Haven, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Shawn Bentley and wife, Marcia, of Chilhowee, Missouri; Jamie Bentley and wife, Jannah, of Warrensburg, Missouri; Brian Bentley and wife, Regina, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Tabitha Hill and husband, Brad, of Auburndale; Rachel Warren and husband, Mike, of Auburndale; Cale Steward and wife, Hailee, of Ft. Polk, Louisiana; Steve Bentley of Kansas City, Kansas; Shannon Bentley of Independence, Missouri; Shane Bentley of Warrensburg; Autum Bassham and husband, Dustin, of Winter Haven; Mary Dantin of Altamont, Florida; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, in 1996; both parents; a sister, Dorothy Maize and four brothers, John, Bill, Reginald and Jerry.
