(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) – The UCM Show Me Justice Film Festival is approaching and the public is invited to a sneak peak Wednesday at the eight feature films while also meeting one of the filmmakers.
The preview event is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Old Drum Coffeehouse and Bakery, 211 N. Holden St.
Kevin McKinney, a Kansas City resident and director of the feature film “Corporate FM,” will attend the preview. There also will be a special announcement of a work-in-progress screening at the festival of a controversial film by an award-winning Midwestern filmmaker, according to a news release.
“Thanks to the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce for setting up this event where we can share movie trailers and talk about all the amazing films that will be shown at this year’s Show Me Justice Film Festival,” said Dr. Mark von Schlemmer, festival director, in the news release.
The Show Me Justice Film Festival is Oct. 17-20 on the UCM campus. Tickets for feature films are $10 for the public and $5 for students. The public may pay the student rate if they bring two canned goods to benefit the Warrensburg Food Center and students may receive free admission with two canned goods. Admission for members of the military and senior citizens is $5.
The Show Me Justice Film Festival strives to raise awareness about social injustice. Through the art of film, the goal is to inspire individuals and communities toward collective action against social injustices such as racism, sexism, poverty, substance abuse, and other social ills that plague our society.
