June King, 90, of Detroit, Alabama, and formerly of Warrensburg, Missouri, died April 9 at Generations of Vernon Nursing Home in Vernon, Alabama.
Services were Sunday, April 13, at Norwood Funeral Home in Sulligent, Alabama.
June was born June 7, 1923, and was a member of the Detroit Baptist Church. During her lifetime, she was a seamstress in various garment plants beginning in World War II. She was also a seamstress at home, making shirts and shorts for her sons and sold many blouses, dresses and even one wedding gown. She was also active as a quilter and provided them as gifts and for sale. She was a retail clerk at Long’s Drugs, TG&Y and Ben Franklin’s in addition to being a stay-at-home mother. June was a member of the Air Force Non-Commissioned Officers’ Wives Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Tom W. King; her parents, H.B. and Allie Mae Knight; and sisters, Jean Irvin, Eleanor Frederick, Ann Gosa, Frankie Channell and brother, L.B. Knight.
She is survived by her brother, Bobby Joe Knight; three sons and their wives, Tom and Giovan, Dan and Barbara, and Fred and Wanda; four grandsons, Wess, Todd, Joel and Jamison; and 12 great-grandchildren, with one more due in June.
