WHS golfers return from state tournament

Three Warrensburg Tigers golfers returned from the state tournament this week. They did not place in the top 10, but coach Guy Albert said it was a positive experience.
Junior Stuart Duncan and sophomores Bailey Woods and JD Pedersen competed in the 36-hole state tournament at Freemont Hills Country Club on Monday and Tuesday as individual qualifiers.
“Freemont Hills Country Club is a tough, unforgiving golf course,” Albert said in an email. “You have to think every shot and play very disciplined target golf from tee to green. The greens were very firm and fast and everyone struggled in the wind, especially day one.”
Wood placed 16th by shooting a 79 on the first round and 80 on round two. Albert said he missed All-State honors by one stroke.
Duncan improved his performance this year after his experience at state last year, and Pedersen gained valuable playing experience at the state competition, Albert said.
Albert said the Tigers had a successful year as a team and as individuals, winning a conference championship and a district title. The Tigers lost at sectionals to a tough Pembroke Hill team, which went on to win the state championship.
