Tigers qualify three for state golf

Warrensburg failed to qualify as team Tuesday for the state tournament, but the Tigers are sending three individuals following the sectional tournament.
The top two teams automatically qualify all players to the state tournament. The next 12 best scores then qualify for the state tournament.
Bailey Woods placed third overall with 76. JD Pedersen tied for 13th overall with an 83 and Stuart Duncan tied for 16th with an 85. All three head to the state tournament. Freshman John Quitno of Nevada had the low score on the day, firing a one under par, 71.
Pembroke took first as a team with a score of 326. Nevada took second by shooting 328, and Warrensburg was third with a score of 335.
First-time sectional players, sophomore Hagan Zinecker and sophomore Brett Ballard, missed the cut for state but gained valuable experience playing at this level of competition, said coach Guy Albert.
“We all played poorly to start the front side, but everyone finished better than they started and that is really a good thing,” Albert said. “Learning to cope with your nerves is an important experience. We have had a very successful season this year and it is my hope for us to have some all-state performers next week.”
