(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — Foul play is suspected in the fire that destroyed the home of three UCM students last week.
“Based on the evidence found at scene, the fire started at the rear of the house and may have been intentionally set,” said Fire and Emergency Prevention Officer Jeremy Van Wey.
The occupants of the home, located at 703 S. Holden St., were away on spring break and no one was harmed. The home was totally lost in the fire, which occurred on March 17.
Van Wey said three agencies are participating in the investigation, including the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Warrensburg Fire Department, and the Warrensburg Police Department.
The Police Department placed Detective Tim Lowry in charge of the case, but he declined to comment.
Van Wey said two of the three occupants have been interviewed.
“We’re talking to people, trying to get this figured out,” Van Wey said, “and we’ll see where the investigation takes us.”
