Police crack down on open containers at football game

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — Saturday’s Mules Football game brought out many tailgaters, but quite a few seemed to wander out of designated drinking areas.
Officers on patrol and working the main gate were busy warning fans about open container violations and telling them to ditch the plastic cups.
Between 11:58 a.m. and 5 p.m., officers reminded 36 fans that drinking in public places was prohibited. After each verbal warning, the officers either had the subjects pour out their alcohol, or confiscated drinks to throw them away.
Some popular spots were South Street near UCM Lot 67, 10 warnings issued; the intersection of Holden and South Streets near UCM Lot 1, 12 warnings issued; and the intersection of South and Washington Streets, seven warnings issued.
Whether toting plastic cups, beer cans, beer bottles, or in one case, a camouflage cooler, officers reminded fans to keep their alcoholic beverages in the designated tailgating areas.
