Smith wins pentathlon title at UCM Happy Holidays Multi

(WARRENSBURG, Mo.) — Madison Smith totaled a career-best 3,621 points to capture the women’s pentathlon title at the UCM Happy Holidays Multi Events on Friday and Saturday at the Multipurpose Building.
Osvaldo Granillo was the highest placing Mule on the men’s side in fifth place in the heptathlon.
Smith won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.05 and the high jump with a jump of 5-8 1/2. Teammate Victoria Jackson was second in the pentathlon with 3,521 points. She won the shot put with a throw of 42-5 1/4 and the long jump at 17-3 1/2. Katie Cassidy was fifth overall and Emily Heissler came in 10th.
Smith, Jackson and Cassidy all earned provisional marks in the pentathlon.
Granillo earned a provisional mark in the heptathlon totaling 4,852 points. He was followed by teammates Hassan Ilyas in sixth with 4,721 points, Blake Seitz in seventh with 4,702 points and Ulises Garcia in eighth with 4,625 points. All four earned provisional marks.
The full Mules and Jennies track teams will make their season debut after the new year, hosting the UCM Invite on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at 3 p.m.
