Filing for City Council opens Dec. 17

Filing for two seats on the Warrensburg City Council opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 at City Hall, 102A S. Holden St.
The filing deadline is Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. The councilmembers serve three-year terms.
The municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, 2014. These two positions are currently held by Dr. Curt Dyer and Don Butterfield. Dyer is unable to file again due to term limits. Butterfield is eligible to file for re-election.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old, a resident of the city of Warrensburg for one year prior to the election, and a citizen of the United States, according to state statutes.
Candidates cannot be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes or municipal user fees on the last day to file a declaration of candidacy for the office, according to a news release from the city.
Also, candidates for public office cannot be convicted felons or found guilty or pled guilty to a felony under the laws of this state. All required campaign finance disclosure reports for all prior elections must be filed and all fees assessed by the ethics commission must be paid.
